Kim Karr’s Toxic was a second chance romance with a lot of drama. A LOT OF DRAMA. Phoebe and Jeremy had great chemistry but also major trust issues. As you can imagine, things did not go very smoothly.
Phoebe and Jeremy started off as a whirlwind romance one summer. Jeremy had a lot of animosity against the rich, and Phoebe was the rich. Secrets were kept, and ultimately everything fell apart. Fast forward years later, Phoebe is doing everything in her power to try and keep her family’s legacy afloat, and shockingly, Jeremy may be the only one that can help her. As much as they try to put the past behind them, it seems to have a way of always creeping up on them.
Phoebe and Jeremy’s relationship was definitely not perfect. They had amazing chemistry both then and now, but they continuously kept secrets and never could truly trust each other. It seemed as if an argument was always around the corner, but they couldn’t help but be together. As much as I love Phoebe and Jeremy, they were definitely one of those couples that I think could have avoided a lot of issues if they just talked more. I found myself rooting for them, but I also wanted to knock some sense into them. Granted, shocking family history also stirred the pot along with an ex-fiance that wouldn’t let Phoebe go.
Toxic by Kim Karr is definitely high on drama and very entertaining. It may just be a tad bit over the top. It is definitely something you should check out if you enjoy romance novels with high drama and that enters the world of the rich elite.
