Book Review: Taking Back Forever by Karen Amanda Hooper

Taking Back Forever - Karen Amanda Hooper

Taking Back Forever by Karen Amanda Hooper picks up right where Grasping at Eternity ends.

One new surprise in Taking Back Forever was the addition of Harmony’s POV to the story. This installment greatly focuses on the kindrily trying to get back her soul-mate Gregory as well as training Maryah. There’s quite a bit of action and even some deaths in this book. So be forewarned.

I must say though, that although I feel for Harmony’s situation, I’m not a big fan of her. I really hated some of her actions, particularly towards Maryah. I hated that through much of this story Maryah just felt continuously guilty and increasingly so by Harmony. I know she erased for a purpose. I don’t think it’s fair to bash her for it so often. Also I hate to say it, but I’m positive all this pushing is just going to get Maryah in danger. Then Nathaniel will be without his soul-mate all over again. Although I’m positive she cares deeply for the kindrily, I can’t help but feel that she’s being super selfish in this book. Probably because all of her selfish actions really stand out here and cause more trouble than good, in my opinion anyways.

Interestingly, Karen Amanda Hooper gives the reader the choice to read a couple of extra chapters having the decision to end on a cliffhanger or not. I absolutely hate cliffhangers, but I honestly couldn’t wait. Things were just so exciting! Some of the development shown really didn’t mean much to me plot wise and probably won’t until the next book is released. The rest of the developments presented in the additional chapters didn’t shock me much at all since I sort of expected something like that to happen, but it did end on a cliffhanger. So now I’m waiting to see what happens.

Overall, I loved it and would give it 4.5 stars. I’m not a fan of Harmony. We’ll see if I change my opinion after the next book. I really wish there was more development for Maryah and discovery as to why she possibly erased, but I’m sure it’ll be coming soon. I also want to know what’s up with that River character. What’s his role in his uncle’s big plan?

I can’t wait to find out when the next book - Fighting for Infinity – will be released. Let’s hope it’s fairly soon. :)
