I was quite excited for the release of This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith. It’s been on my TBR for a while now, and I totally love the cover. The instant I saw it was on sale, I picked it up. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to what I’d hope it would be. I thought there’d be more action and humor to the plot. Instead it was a bit boring.

The story didn’t have much action between Graham, the hero, and Ellie, the heroine. Most of the story consisted of descriptions and internal thoughts. I don’t even think many of the conflicts presented were even resolved.

Regardless of the lack of action and dialogue, it was still a cute story. Graham and Ellie were also great characters. They’re very real and down-to-earth. They should work on their communication though. Many of their problems with each other arose because of the lack of communication, which is kind of funny because they met because of their constant emailing.

So to recap, the story was cute but slow and feels incomplete due to the lack of resolution. It did not live up to my expectations, but it’s not a bad story. Overall I’d give it 2.5-3 stars.
