Crazy for You by Juliet Rosetti is a fun, cozy read with romance, mystery, and a female heroine that doesn’t quite know what she’s doing. It’s the second in the series but can be read as a stand alone. It does, however, give away some spoilers for the first book if you’ve never read it, in particular about the romance between Mazie and Ben.
In this book Mazie is helping her ex-boyfriend, Ben, stay out of jail. The chemistry between the two is obvious, and the way they broke up made me wonder if they were actually broken up. There were many things left unsaid by both parties. Their childish bickering was a bit annoying. If they just discussed their issues, they’d be perfectly fine. Regardless, somehow the two of them work.
The mystery of the dead cougar is a bit far fetched. Placing Ben as the primary suspect and targeting Mazie suggested potential police corruption. There seriously was a lack of motive for Ben to kill her, and the others with greater motive had alibis that really aren’t that solid. Plus they failed to do a good enough evidence collection if there was still evidence to be stolen. (Obviously this annoyed me big time since I’m studying forensics.) The real perpetrator was pretty obvious, but the whole story behind the murder was something I would have never completely guessed. Mazie, though, did some not so smart things during her sleuthing. It was expected, but at the same time, that last thing she did was beyond idiotic in my opinion. Seriously, ever heard the saying “trust no one”?
Overall, I enjoyed reading Crazy for You by Juliet Rosetti and would give it 4 stars. I’ll definitely be reading the sequel. The characters were a bit immature and the mystery was a bit far fetched, but it was a nice fun read all around.
