Book Review: Against the Cage by Sidney Halston

Against the Cage - Sidney Halston

Note: I received an eARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. In no way did this affect my opinion when reviewing the book.

From the synopsis, I expected a fun, hilarious read from Sidney Halston’s Against the Cage. Boy was it a fun read! There were quite a few moments that it even had me laughing out loud. So if you’re looking for a fun quick read, Against the Cage may be perfect for you.

Jack and Chrissy were fun characters. Their lack of communication seemed extremely immature for a bad boy reformed into a police officer and a licensed doctor, but I can’t help but root for them. It was fun watching them dance around each other and watching Chrissy get into some messy situations, many of which were due to her crappy car. Their two personalities really made for a light hearted read.

I’m honestly not a big fan of Chrissy’s brother. He didn’t feel like a big brother at all, and I thought he acted extremely immature. He said that he tried to call Chrissy after she left, but yet made no attempts to resolve their broken relationship when she was there. Yes, he may not have liked Chrissy arguing to him about his fighting, but for goodness sakes, it wasn’t sanctioned fights. As a girl that was in an abusive relationship and as a doctor, I totally get Chrissy’s standpoint. Her brother though never even tried to compromise or listen, just telling her to get lost.

So Chrissy’s brother may not have been a highlight of the story, but Jack’s dog sure was! That dog was a character and definitely acted like a person. I loved it!!! Absolutely hilarious. That dog totally made my day.

All-in-all, I really enjoyed reading Against the Cage by Sidney Halston, and I’d suggest giving it a try if you’re looking for a quick, funny read. I’d give Against the Cage 4 stars overall.
